Social Bowls:
It has been great to see some good numbers every week on our club social days. The new members are playing some really good bowls on a Tuesday Morning and it’s been great to see a full green every week.

Thursday Afternoon numbers have also been really good with new members and bowlers playing in the summer season comp using this time as practice for the upcoming weekend’s game.

Tuesday Night Bowls is a fantastic night out, with easy listening tunes on, under lights with a cool Hamilton breeze, Premier League players fine tuning their game and club members improving their skills.

Summer Competition:
The Q7’s got underway last weekend, and The Mighty Power had a near perfect start to the season.

Division 3 started their campaign in perfect style, winning at The Powerhouse on all 3 rinks.
Shawn Thomas having an impressive win in the singles over old Northern Suburbs fox Peter Hull 25 – 11.
Phil McLaren aka Dr Phil and Lawrie Paatsch also had a big win. After being down 9 – 11 at the halfway mark, The Power pairs duo picked up 5,3,4,5 and a 2 in concession to lead 28 – 11 after 16 ends. The Pair went on to win the game 32 – 16.
The Fours game was a hard-fought contest, Northern Suburbs 3^rd Matt Blyth was giving Power skip Mike Hill Headaches all day. But a solid game from Hamilton’s 2nd Michael Seale and Skip Mike Hill playing some pressure bowls helped see The Power Fours get home 19 – 15.

A Perfect start to the season for Division 3.
This Saturday from 9.30am, Division 3 are back at The Powerhouse against Sandgate.

Division 5 had to be up early, as they travelled to Ipswich for a 10am game. But that didn’t worry this Power side as they had a solid 2 – 1 win over Ipswich.

Roland got the side off to great start with well earnt 25 – 19 win in the singles.
Chrissie Smith and Robbie (Hooky) Hook sent the Ipswich pairs side back to Neverland to lead 12 – 1 after 8 ends and the lost boys could not recover as Chrissie and Hooky cruised to 24 – 12 victory.
The Fours side had much tougher day out. The 12-shot loss did not reflect the game with Alan Whiteman playing exceptional lead bowls all game.

Dessie and his team will be looking to bounce back this week as they return to The Powerhouse.
Division 5 will be at The Powerhouse this Saturday from 9.30am against Beenleigh.

Division 6 (Sect 5) Travelled out to the Narangba carpet for their first-round clash, The Power side sneaking home 2 – 1 in 3 hard fought games.

Hamilton Jnr rising star Lachlan Moore played the singles match and found it hard to find his bearings on the tricky carpet early as fell behind 4 – 12. But once Lachie found his rhythm he fought back hard and despite only being in front of the scoreboard once, Lachie came from nowhere to snatch at impressive 25 – 24 victory.
The new pairing of Mal Bates and former Italian Heart throb Vittorio had a solid outing first up. Both men played some terrific bowls throughout the game. An unfortunate 7 dropped on the 16^th end when scores were tight made it hard to claw back, but the pairs never say die attitude kept them in the hunt until they eventually went down 24 – 26.
The fours were brilliant in scratching out a hard fought 1 shot victory. The margin never got any more then 4 shots as Bobby Vitnell lead his side of Darby Monro, Peter (Flossy) Flower and Tony Silvester to 14 – 13 W.

Division 6 (sect 5) are back on the road again this Saturday as they look to keep their winning record in tact against Brighton at 1pm.

Division 6 (sect 6) The Power played their round 1 game at Bramble Bay.

It was a tough outing for Vlad and his team, going down closely on all 3 rinks.
Vlad fought hard in the singles to narrowly go down by 3 shots, 22 – 25.
Billy Eakin and Spud Murphy were neck and neck with scores locked at 16 all after 17 ends. The power pair dropped a 3 on the 18^th end and just couldn’t get it back in the last few ends. Going down 17 – 21.
It’s great to see another lady playing summer comp here at The Powerhouse. Gayle Gerrey led up in Jacko’s fours as they tried to salvage a rink win for the day. Unfortunately, the Bramble Bay side were just too good on their home track and got the win 9 – 23.

Premier League:

The Mighty Power hosted Burleigh Hammers last Saturday night at The Powerhouse. With Australian and Internationals skipping the Burleigh top side, the atmosphere at The Powerhouse was electric. DJ Mango had the tunes cranked and a good-sized crowd enjoyed the contest right up till the last bowls was played.

After Dojo and his team got away with an impressive 9 shot victory over Australian Jackaroo Barrie Lester. The boys were down 14 – 16 after 16 ends. Then Power 2^nd Timmy Jones turned on a masterclass finish playing some exceptional draw bowls in the final 6 ends. John The Doj Newell finished off some brilliant heads to win the last 5 ends including two fours to win 25 – 16.

Nic Gosley had the hard task of stopping Irish International and arguably world number 1 Gary Kelly. Nico played some big bowls early and The Power jumped out to a 12 – 3 lead after 9 ends. Burleigh third Scott Franklin played some big bowls at the backend to help reduce the final deficit to four shots. Gosley getting home 19 – 15.

Andrew Howie was up against Australian Jackaroo Corey Wedlock, and did he let us all see just why he’s a Jackaroo. Corey was in great touch early and led 16 – 3 after 11 ends. The 13-shot margin would be the difference in the end going down 25 – 12. Andrew (Age) Howie had a chance to win the overall match for The Power with his last bowl. Age had to draw close to the ditch for 2^nd shot to win it, unfortunately his bowl just dropped in and Hamilton came away with 2 rinks to 1 draw 57 – 57.

Reserve Grade side had a forgettable night at The Powerhouse having a ton scored against them against a very strong Burleigh side.

Chris Scott’s Rink were the only shining light having a solid 21 – 16 rink win. Bernie Carroll has been in solid touch so far this season and continued that form for Scotty to help get the W.

Hamilton 68 lost to Burleigh 100 3 rinks to 1.

The Squad were up early Sunday for 7.30am bus trip to Broadbeach.

It’s pretty safe to say that double header Sunday’s have not been too kind to The Power this season. And this was one was certainly no exception.

After a solid win the night before, John Newell and his side were blown off the park by an in-form Sean Ingham and his rink. It was a disappointing performance all round and the 6 – 38 score card shows just how bad it was.

Nic Gosley’s rink started quite well early against Canadian Superstar Ryan Bester, but then the Master Blaster took control on his home deck and dominated The Power rink for the rest of the game. Bester defeating Gosley 30 – 8.

After a disappointing loss the night before, Andrew Howie and his team came out all guns blazing putting their best overall rink performance together in what was the only real positive to come out of this game. All four players were in great touch as they cruised to huge 28 – 9 shot victory over Scottish International Kevin Anderson.

Hamilton 42 lost to Broadbeach 77.

The Reserve grade made some rink changes for their Sunday clash and it didn’t really pay off for this one. Dale Atkin’s 1 shot loss against an all QLD female side was as close as it got for the shell-shocked Power.

The Power going down on all 4 rinks 67 – 93.

The Mighty Power will come out firing next weekend as we go back on the road to Beenleigh to take on the Muddies Saturday night from 5pm.

News:

Both Green’s have been playing very well and most members have been delighted to be playing on generous and true greens.

Over 60’s Pennants nomination form is on the board for those members wishing to play.

Over 60’s starts Friday 16^th April 2021. All members wishing to play must have their name on the sheet by Thursday the 26^th Feb 2021.
